Just in time for the harvest.
A love of homegrown food and community makes for a very peaceful belly – and a fun and funky music video.
Nestled in the Boise Foothills in Dry Creek Valley, Peaceful Belly is a garden of bliss that was founded by Clay and Josie Erskine in 2002.
Their 70-acre ecologically sustainable urban farm is also a CSA Program (Community Supported Agriculture) that supplies certified organic vegetables to a 160-family program, The New Boise Farmers Market, The Boise Co-op, Idaho’s Bounty and local restaurants.
Heart and Soul
At its heart, Peaceful Belly is a small organic family farm that grows over 90 types of vegetables, fruits, herbs, flowers and berries, in addition to raising pastured poultry. And at its soul it’s a community that understands that farming is just the start of the local food system.
After all, it takes a community to produce veggies the way that Peaceful Belly can. Food should be grown close to the people that consume it. Peaceful Belly’s goal is to connect the people that consume the food to the people that grow the food.
It’s about creating community not only through produce but through the many outreach and educational programs that they have created and that they partner in.
Peaceful Belly believes in the importance of raising food with love and care. Their entire staff functions as a family who take pride in growing sustainable and healthy food.
Organic Integrity
They believe in the integrity of organics and their farm is certified Organic with the State of Idaho. Their mission is to grow the most wholesome food for our community.
Their farming practices include the use of cover crops, compost, drip irrigation, companion planting, chicken pasturing and they never use GMO seeds.
Not only are they committed to growing healthy food for their community but they also believe in giving back to their community. Peaceful Belly donates 1,000 of pounds of food into the hunger communities and other outreach programs. It’s not just a farm, but a way of thinking. “Real Peace starts with a full belly of healthy food, from there anything is possible.”
Plus, Events!
Because there is a lot of thought that goes into putting food on a plate, Peaceful Belly offers all kinds of classes on how to grow your own food and how to cook with fresh local food.
They welcome guests, interns and students to the farm to learn a wide variety of organic food skills.
And, it gets even better… They also create a delicious and spectacular dinner series called “Farm to Fork.” These other-worldly dinners will transport you to another time and place where fresh food cooked with amazing brilliance is presented to the table in a beautiful farm setting.
They’ve transformed a meal into a one-of-a-kind experience that won’t be forgotten.
