The odds of getting your self-published novels turned into a Hollywood movie are about, oh, nil.
She didn’t get the memo:
But Canadian author Lorna Suzuki defied the odds and now the first of the trilogy, Imago Chronicles, A Warrior’s Tale, is slated for production, anticipated for world-wide release in 2015.
And Resident Evil too!
Don Carmody (Oscar Award-winning Good Will Hunting, Chicago, along with The Resident Evil franchise and the current release Pompeii) is attached to co-produce. Indie producer Michy Gustavia is attached as executive producer.
Bad-ass mom:
Suzuki, a mother, wanted to read her daughter stories of women who weren’t afraid to fight for their destiny. Trouble was, she couldn’t find one she liked. So she wrote it herself, centering it around Nayla, a half-elf, half-woman, and all kick-ass warrior.
Lord of the Rings meets The Last Samurai:
Casting is underway with full film production slated to start in the fall of 2014. Suzuki is also hard at work on her next books which she is writing with her daughter.
Why we love it:
- Killer origin story. Did we mention that Suzuki also happens to have a 5th degree black belt in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu?
- Hard work. No one has worked harder in the history of forever to bring a book to life. Suzuki has worked Twitter and everything else she could think of to grow a cult fan base for her book
- Suzuki understands the value of community, embracing science fiction and fantasy conferences, including VCON and Emerald City Comicon in Seattle.
We have followed this brand for years, watching the fan-base take root and grow. From very humble beginnings, very soon The Imago Chronicles will be on theatrical screens around the world. And that definitely makes it a brand story to watch.
